Detact Diagnostics receives $5.9M (USD) in grant from the Gates Foundation. The money will be used to develop essential point-of-care diagnostic tests and hardware utilising their VIPER® technology platform.
The newly awarded grants build on the foundation's funding for the initial pilot studies, demonstrating the potential for Detact Diagnostics' VIPER® technology to quickly and easily diagnose infectious diseases, such as tuberculosis and syphilis, in clinical samples.
The follow-on grants fund the development of Detact Diagnostics' novel 'DeNIRO®' Near-Infrared Fluorometer, a low-cost handheld point-of-care device to accelerate the journey of the VIPER® based diagnostics into the hands of healthcare professionals for the rapid detection and diagnosis of its initial target diseases, tuberculosis and syphilis.
"We're thrilled to have funding support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in moving to the next stage of development of our VIPER® technology. Our mission is to revolutionise the detection and diagnostics of infectious diseases. Our unique VIPER® technology platform is simple to use, fast, low cost, sensitive and portable, making it an ideal platform for deployment in low and middle-income countries where these diseases have a huge social and economic impact"
